Homeopathy is a medicinal practice that has been in use for more than 200 years. Founded by a German doctor by the name of Samuel Hahnemann in 1796, homeopathic medicine plays a vital role in modern medicine in many countries around the world today. Homeopathy can be used to treat many acute and chronic ailments including anxiety. This form of medicine has been as effective if not more so then traditional medicine in helping a person end their anxiety.
Practice theory in this field recognizes that fact that all symptoms of poor health, illnesses are a reflection of the disharmony that is present within the person afflicted with the illness. Practitioners understand that it is the person that needs to be treated, not the disease.
This is the case with anxiety. Homeopaths see that there is an underlying reason to a person's anxiety. Taking a pill to control symptoms is not enough. Anxiety homeopathy works to help the individual find inner balance.
When Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician, discovered a different way to treat those that were sick, he he spent the rest of his life developing a whole new medical field. The term "homeopathy" is taken from the Greek word that means similar suffering. Even Hippocrates recognized more then 2000 years earlier that there are two ways to treat an illness:
1. The way of opposites (that is, conventional medical drugs that suppress symptoms).
2. The way of similars (that is, the homeopathic approach of using like to cure like).
For example, a person that is suffering from insomnia (the inability to sleep) can be temporarily treated by using the way of opposites with drugs that suppress waking. Generally speaking this way of treatment uses large doses of drugs to artificially induce sleep and often lead to addiction.
The way of similars would be to give the person who can't sleep the remedy Coffea Cruda or other remedies such as Nux Vomica that can cause insomnia in a healthy person. In turn, the remedy would relieve sleeplessness in a person with insomnia. Unlike drugs, homeopathic remedies are not addictive.
Homeopathy uses the minimum dose principle as well. Homeopathic medicines, called remedies, are prepared by serially diluting animal, mineral, or plant substances and shaking the solutions very strongly after each dilution. The preparation process appears to unlock the healing potential.
The use of smaller doses also helps decrease the risk of side effects and addictions. Remedies are not prone to interactions with drugs, for instance, a major advantage over herbs and some other nutritional supplements in many situations.
Essentially homeopathic medicine works by stimulating the body's natural healing power. The body has a unique and incredibly powerful ability to heal. Think of getting a cut, aside from cleaning the cut with soap and water, if left alone the body will heal that cut on its own.
However if you don't clean the cut with soap and water then the healing process is impeded or blocked, in this case by dirt, and the body is not able to heal itself.
The same holds true for those that are dealing with anxiety. This form of alternative medicine offers a number of different natural options.
The first anxiety homeopathy remedy is Aconite. Aconite is ideal for post-traumatic stress or those anxiety attacks that come on all of a sudden and are accompanied by a very strong fear, sometimes even a fear of death. Other symptoms may include shortness of breath, strong palpitations and face flushing. If the fear does not go away, then Aconite is highly recommended.
For those that experience anxiety before a big event such as an interview, a presentation, getting married and such events should consider the remedy treatment of Argentum Nitricum. This is a good remedy for any type of emotional upset.
Silicea (silica) is another remedy that is more for those that are serious and capable who are experiencing a temporary loss in their confidence. The anxiety can increase when they are faced with making a public appearance or are feeling overworked. Silica can help people with social anxiety and shyness.
There are many other options specific to an individual and the type of anxiety they are experiencing. Homeopaths use thousands of different remedies in treating people with chronic illness, although many people can use homeopathy for self care in acute problems by learning about 25 to 100 commonly used remedies. Anxiety is a complex problem, but homeopathy offers natural anxiety and stress relief for many people.
