Guided visualization is a technique used by individuals to prepare for certain events in their life. These events might be anything from surgery to a sporting event but they are all important to each individual. The idea behind this form of preparation is quite simple and akin to hypnosis. Though it is very simple to do in theory some people may have more difficulty with the mental aspect of it.

The general idea behind guided visualization is to visualize yourself preparing for something and telling your body to get ready for the event. This may sound like nothing but a fantasy idea but it's been documented by several people that it works. Take surgery for example. If you are facing a dangerous surgery you're going to be very apprehensive about it.

This is understandable, after all no one likes the idea of being cut open and worked on like a car. The method that most use to prepare for this is to visualize the systems of their body being fortified days or weeks before the actual surgery. This requires a lot of patience and a bit of mental clarity but it can be achieved. The hope is that your body will have picked up on the suggestion to fortify these areas or systems in preparation of the surgery and all will go well with the operation.

Again it sounds like the ranting from a child's imagination but it all goes back to the belief of mind over matter. Guided visualization can also be used to combat stress and other anxiety related ailments. This can be very similar to the hypnosis techniques that many people advise to deal with such problems but are a bit more active. After all hypnosis just requires you to lay back and think, visualization is a bit harder.

While people can perform guided visualization on their own many prefer a guide like the name implies. Of course a guide can be a person helping you in the room, an audio recording, or a piece of paper that you have written instructions on. Despite what people believe you don't have to have your eyes closed for this or other similar forms of mental work. All that the process hinges on is the strength of your faith.

This isn't religious faith we're talking about this is faith or trust in your body and mind to take care of the things that you can't directly control. Confronting anxiety, depression, fear, or other emotional problems requires that you have this faith in some measure or degree to address them. Old fashioned determination also helps from time to time when dealing with these issues as well.

Many western doctors do not believe that the body can do any kind of healing without medication or medical treatment. Other cultures both modern and ancient however have based their medicinal treatments on the mind preparing and guiding the body through its healing process.

Regardless of personal beliefs or debates having a strong will and determination can help you overcome any medical or mental issue that might afflict you.

Believing that guided visualization will work is important in order for it to do its job. However this is also true for medication and other forms of treatment. If you are convinced that you will not get better then your body will heal much slower than normal. Remember to always have faith and determination when facing any problem.
