Being able to increase reading speed is very important to better comprehensions and faster reading. I found that there were several different techniques that I could use to make this happen. There were some techniques that worked on retraining my mind to be able to read more quickly by eliminating certain things that were being done subconsciously.
One of the things that I had to work on was being able to eliminate pronouncing words as I was reading. This was not something that was done aloud but better by the brain. I was reading each word individually and was only able to read as fast I could talk because of this. Once I was able to stop doing this I noticed a large increase in the speed in which I was able to read.
Another thing that I needed to work on was regressing. I was finding myself rereading things that I had already read. It is shown that someone with an average reading level will regress about twenty times on one page.
This slowed down my reading drastically and might be slowing yours down also. Since I was reading more slowly my mind was having time to wonder and it was messing with my concentration.
This was causing the feeling like I needed to reread. Once I was able to stop doing this my speed was drastically improved.
The next thing that I need to work on was a wider range of vision. This helped me with being able to read more than one word at a time because I was able to see more words at once. I also found that once I was able to do this the material actually became more meaningful to me. This is because I was able to read thought units or phrases instead of a single word.
These were three techniques that I found helped me to be able to increase reading speed. After I achieved all of these techniques I saw that I was able to read and comprehend much more than I was able to before.
If you were to try just these three techniques you too would notice a difference. After I had these techniques down I started a speed reading course and noticed another drastic change in my reading speed.
You can get the same results as me and be on your way to reading more efficiently by reading fast with a better comprehension of the material being read.
